Non-silicone Breast Form Facts
Non-silicone prostheses are often the first breast form recommended after some surgeries and sometimes can be worn while recovering. A non-silicone prosthesis is generally worn during leisure time, working out and for swimming. When you use this at the pool or beach, it mimics the natural movement of an existing breast so when you lie down, it lies down too!
Non-silicone breast forms are much lighter in weight than a silicone breast prosthesis and an essential part of your breast form wardrobe.
Most non-silicone forms are made of foam and are rigid. Others are made of fiberfill. There is also a non-silicone form (shown) that is filled with micro-beads that moves with your body and mimics the movement of a natural breast.
Insurance will cover these every 6 months BUT most insurers will not cover both a non-silicone and silicone form dispensed at the same time. Consider purchasing this form, as they are generally less expensive to purchase than a full form. Don’t cheat yourself out a full wardrobe of forms for everyday lifestyle.
Non-silicone breast forms are lightweight forms used for swimming, exercising and leisure wear. This is the ideal form if your patient is not ready for the weight of a silicone form. BUT insurers will not reimburse for a silicone form until 6 months have passed from the dispensing date of the non-silicone form. Please encourage your patients to have a wardrobe of forms, so they can continue with an active lifestyle.
